ya know what? i'm going to argue you on this...No snark or false modesty intended in what follows:
I look at ars every day and even contribute a bit in these very comment sections...comment sections that, generally after I read them, make me smarter.
But if attendance really is limited, I would not feel right attending because I don't qualify as far as real working knowledge in the specifics of these topics, and I would be taking the seat of someone who does qualify.
As Clint Eastwood said in one of the DIrty Harry movies:
"A man's got to know his limitations."
While a noble gesture, I feel that you shouldn't limit yourself. All physical events are space-limited* so you should try to attend if you feel you would benefit from/enjoy it. Would you talk yourself out of going to a concert because someone else might be a bigger fan?But if attendance really is limited, I would not feel right attending because I don't qualify as far as real working knowledge in the specifics of these topics, and I would be taking the seat of someone who does qualify.
Nope, the tickets don't have a cost or anything—it's just to make sure we don't over-fill the venue!Would love to attend, and would especially love my company (edit: this is relevant to my professional interests) to foot the bill, since I'd have to travel. Please excuse the noob question, but is there a cost to the ticket? Or is that just to control attendance limits?
I agree with @DistinctivelyCanuck said - if you have interest, don't let those concerns stop you.No snark or false modesty intended in what follows:

Reg page on mobile still shows an image of the Houston space center event… for Nov 2023. Perhaps Ars is adding a 4th session about wormholes?Sorry folks—pulling this down while sales updates the date of the San Jose event. Will repost soon!
Edit - aaaaaand we're back! Same date for San Jose. Reg page issues should be fixed, too! If not, please post in the thread and I'll poke the right people.
If I attended (difficult as I live nearly 4,000 miles away) it would be very much as an interested lay person who probably had the least knowledge of the subject of anyone there. Should that disqualify me from coming? I wouldn’t want to take from others but it’s not a formal industry coaching session, so why not? It says it’s social as well.No snark or false modesty intended in what follows:

As someone who has a reluctant appreciation for cable management, I can just imagine how much longer that makes replacing a bad cable. Not acceptable in a production environment that isn't a lot of similar redundant servers. Is it weird that I only clicked on this story to take a closer look at the incredibly well organized server racks in the picture? I feel like they went a little overboard on the zip ties, but that's still a very nice looking data center.
As a DC resident I can tell you that even in recent memory, January 6th, Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and crime upticks, that the area that might be described as pandemonium have been relatively contained and avoidable. Unless you live very close to or work in the Capitol buildings or White House, for the aforementioned or insist on driving downtown during a NATO summit, you’ll be fine. I know it doesn’t always look that way on national news.Dang! I REALLY wanted to attend the DC event as it is right up my alley (AND near my birthday!!) but the Mrs. reminded me that it may be pandemonium in the area so close to election day. I will have to plan a trip to visit another time. Very much looking forward to the next set of event(s) that y'all hold!
So, I know that Ars is "US-Centric" but I for one would love to see an event like this in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver... Canada may be colder, but I for one can tell you: we've got some pretty capable technology people. I can imagine someone like Shopify being willing to partner on an event like this in Ottawa...
(and yep, I know this also means that the European crowd would also weigh in: which is just fine0
I had the same question as you, but it's not a problem:There's no pricing information

I did the same thing. Seems like a poor choice on the racks to me. I prefer the ones with ample cable management on both sides which negates the need for velcro/zip ties. Not sure why they went with zip ties instead of velcro, very odd. Also why the heck are there so many patch cables to each server? I assume it's 1000-BASET. If it where 10G-BASET the amount of power needed for all of that would be ridiculous. It makes you wonder if one of those bundles can be reduced to one 25G DAC cable. Is it weird that I only clicked on this story to take a closer look at the incredibly well organized server racks in the picture?
